Cloudburst in Jammu’s Doda district triggers floods, kills 6

Cloudburst in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir has triggered flash floods, wreaking havoc in the region. The cloudburst took place around 2 am today at Thatri town of the district.

The natural calamity has claimed six lives, so far. According to the reports, eleven people have been found injured and several houses as well as shops have been completely damaged.

Rescue work is still going on over the region. The amount of the damage is yet to be fully determined. Water supply pipes as well as power supply remained retorted in the area. In wake of the situation, the Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway (NH1B) was closed.

This Southwest Monsoon, the Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir has recorded heavy rainfall. According to weathermen at Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to back to back Western Disturbances over the Western Himalayas.

At present also, a Western Disturbance is marked over North Pakistan and adjoining areas. With this, conditions will remain favorable for more good rains in offing during the next 24 to 48 hours.

Prior to this week, heavy showers in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir resulted in landslides that led the authorities to suspend the traffic on the arterial Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

Besides this, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall has led to flash floods and landslides in many other parts of the country such as Assam, Manipur, Odisha, and Gujarat.
