The state of Jammu and Kashmir is prone to heavy showers and cloudbursts during the Southwest Monsoons season. In fact, in the month of June, flooding conditions were seen over the Kashmir Valley. Today, an incident of cloud burst was observed in the forest area of the Shamsabari ridge which lies in the Kupwara district. Due to the cloudburst, flash flood has occurred, and water has been flowing downwards towards the Tanghdar area.

In fact, quantum of water along with threat to population is being assessed. Not only this, local population along with movable property like vehicles etc are being evacuated by Police, SDM and Volunteers. High alert has been issued for the region. Moreover, the Indian Army has also been lending support to the civil administration.

As per an official of the region, a huge amount of water is flowing downwards from the Shammas bari range which can ultimately hit the area. However, there are other reports which have been suggesting that people residing in that area have been seen running towards the safer locations.

The Station House Officer Tangdar was contacted. He said that they have now been ascertaining the facts. Further details are likely to be revealed later.
