Climate Change: Delhi saves 229 MW during Earth Hour 2016

Climate Change: Delhi saves 229 MV during Earth Hour 2016While the much-awaited India-Pakistan World T20 clash may have been the highlight on March 19, Earth Hour 2016 was also a huge success in the past years.

Delhiites left no stone unturned in doing their part in making that slight effort against Climate Change.

The initiative which began in the year 2007 in Syndey has come a long way now.

The residents of the national capital ensured that no other electrical fixture was turned on except their Television sets during that one hour of darkness.

The best part is that the city saved 229 MW power this year as compared to last year’s 200 MW.

Out of this BSES contributed a good 207 MW including BRPL’s 130 MW and BYPL’s 77 MW. More and more people are participating in this noble initiative every year.

The annual event Earth Hour is a creation of the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature/World Wildlife Fund).

Every year on March 19, households and business establishments across the world are requested to turn off their electrical fixtures and lights for an hour to raise awareness for taking that much-needed action against climate change.
