The month of December remained mild for the hills of North India in terms of weather conditions. Rain and snow remained far away except a few occasions during the fag end of the year. Western Disturbances were numbered and not strong enough to bring good rain and snow over the region.

However, as January crept in, the weather conditions took a turn. Rain and snow had become a common affair for the hilly states of North India. On and off snowfall was being recorded over the states. In fact, many hill stations including Srinagar, Manali, Nainital and Shimla were covered with a crisp white blanket of snow. Even, Vaishno Devi, the holy shrine of North India also observed a snow show.

Now, weather conditions are expected to take a turn during the next few days. In fact, the prevailing Western Disturbance has moved away and clear weather is likely for at least the next few days. The states including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will get a break from rain and snow.

The next Western Disturbance is not foreseen until February 3. Thus, weather conditions will remain clear for at least two to three days. Thereafter, snowy, and rainy conditions will make a comeback over the Western Himalayas.
