Clear weather ahead for hills of North India

Around February 4 and 5, a strong and active Western Disturbance has affected the Western Himalayas. This system was situated over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir.

In wake of this system, the hilly states of North India particularly Jammu and Kashmir received heavy rain and snow with isolated very heavy in parts. Also, many parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand observed light to moderate rain and snowfall.

Moreover, maximum temperatures have also dropped significantly over these aforementioned states.

Due to this spell of rain and snow, weather officials issued landslides and avalanche alert for some areas.  Many highways including the Jammu-Srinagar Highway were closed for travel. Avalanche alert was issued in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

According to Skymet Weather, this Western Disturbance is now seen moving away eastwards. With this, the weather over the hilly states is expected to clear up. However, isolated rain and snow will continue to lash the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

With the clear weather ahaed, road travel is likely to be restored soon along with the normal life that had come to a standstill over the weekend due to heavy snowfall.
