Almost all parts of India observed a clear sky on the second day of the year . Unlike the last few days where dense fog caused disruptions in travel and daily life, the country reported clear weather conditions for the second consecutive day. However, Delhiites woke up to the first rainy day of the year with a clear visibility of 1000 meters. No fog was observed in any part of Delhi, but, showers were reported in most parts of the national capital.
However, dense fog was observed in Bhopal with visibility of mere 50 meters. Also, Chennai, which usually observes clear sky, reported a visibility of just 250 meters. Indore observed a visibility of 500 meters. Also, no fog was reported in major cities of Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow, Agra and Gorakhpur. Clear skies were observed in Jaipur with a visibility of 800 meters. Likewise, Gwalior with a visibility of 800 meters reported no fog.
Nonetheless, rail traffic was disrupted in Delhi with 51 trains being delayed. A few trains running behind schedule include Howrah Mail (Kalka - Howrah) by 10 hours, Upasna Express (Dehradun - Howrah) by 7 hours, Nauchandi Express (Saharanpur - Allahabad) by 7 hours, and Karnataka Express (New Delhi - Bangalore) which was delayed by 5 hours. Link Express from Allahabad to Dehradun was delayed by a long 17 hours causing major disruptions.
Air traffic was also affected in Delhi causing delay in departure of four flights. A few delays include flights departing to Port Blair, Bangalore and Ranchi.
