City of Joy Kolkata relishing heavy Monsoon rains

Kolkata Monsoon rainsKolkata has received very heavy rains for the first time this July. During last 24 hours, the Alipore observatory in the City of Joy has received 75 mm of rainfall.

Though the city has been witnessing on and off light rains in July, the only spell of heavy rainfall was seen in the beginning of the month. On July 3, the city had received 48 mm and then again 29 mm of July 12. Once gain in the 15th of the month Kolkata had witnessed about 20 mm of rainfall.

Kolkatagenerally receives very heavy showers during the Monsoon season. Comparatively, the city has not received much rains this July.

At present, Southwest Monsoon is active over Gangetic West Bengaland vigorous over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. More rains are predicted by Skymet Weather in the state during next couple of days.

In West Bengal, Bankura has also received 22 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours. The Diamond Harbour has seen 41 mm of rainfall andMidnapore23 mm.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal has been receiving torrential rains for the last many days. On Monday, Jalpaiguri received 50 mm of rainfall, while Cooch behar recorded very heavy showers of 109 mm.

So far Gangetic West Bengal has received 12% less rains than normal. But, the subdivision of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim has received 20% more rains than normal.
