We’ve done it! We are the most polluted city in the world once again. Delhi Pollution has reached new peaks during the past four to five days. Well, it is the celebratory cracker burning during Diwali that is to be blamed. The crop burning in Haryana and Punjab were also major contributors to the air that Delhiites have been breathing for quite some time.
For the fourth consecutive day, the pollution levels have remained sky high in Delhi, so much so that the national capital has been topping the charts as far as pollution is concerned. We’ve beaten everyone in the world and it’s the worst news for the children and the elderly residing in Delhi.
As per LT Gen BNBM Prasad, Director General of Armed Forces Hospital Services and the surgeon to President Pranab Mukherjee, the rising pollution levels in Delhi and the NCR region is nothing other than a death sentence for the aged and children.
The particles while entering the bloodstream only spells bad news for the ones already suffering from respiratory problems. In fact, these chemicals enter the bloodstream and cause several problems to lungs giving rise to respiratory issues.
School going children are affected the most as they are exposed to the hazards of the pollution. Cough, throat irritation and other problems have become quite common in children these days. In fact, several doctors have advised the little ones and old people to stay at home and try not venturing out until there is some improvement in the prevailing conditions.
The authorities need to take staunch measures to get rid of the rising pollution levels. If something is not done very soon, the destruction of public health is not too far away. In the coming days, masks may not be able to do the trick and the city will need something more to be able to breathe free and stay safe.
