This year is turning out to be very good for the state of Rajasthan in terms of rainfall. West and East Rajasthan are running surplus in rains. All thanks to the weather systems turning out be in favor of rains.
Yet again, an active Western Disturbance will approach Jammu and Kashmir by tomorrow. It will induce a Cyclonic Circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan. We expect, scattered light rains with one or two moderate spells to occur over northern and western districts on January 30 and 31st. Districts likely to be affected will be Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Bikaner and Jaisalmer. Weather will clear up by February 1, but, East Rajasthan will remain dry during this period.
At present, most of the districts of Rajasthan are under Cold Wave. Minimums are below normal by 4 to 7 degree at many places.
Churu is one place back in the state of Rajasthan, that is famous for its extreme temperatures. In Winters it records sub-Zero temperatures and in Summers, day temperatures even reach up to 45°C or more. Today Churu has recorded the lowest minimum of the season which is -1.1°C (6 degrees below the normal).
Looking back into history, it is the fourth time the place has recorded this temperature- earlier instances were in 2013, 2012 and 2008. Lowest-ever Minimum over Churu was recorded on January 16 in 1974. Now, however we expect minimums over Churu to rise and Cold Wave to abate due to formation of an induced Cyclonic Circulation.
The place has recorded temperatures lower than even the hilly region of Mt.Abu (elevation 1200m) which recorded 0°C today morning. It doesn’t occur on many occasions when the temperatures over Plains equalizes the temperatures over hills.
Looking down the rock-
The reason for such temperatures being recorded across Churu can be traced back to various reasons. During Winters any incessant rain and snowy spell combined with Northerly winds blowing across Rajasthan state can hover down temperatures. Also, whenever skies are clear the situation becomes favorable in Rajasthan area for such conditions. Some other major conditions which alter the temperatures are- rocky terrain, surface soil condition, sub-surface sub-soil matters, vicinity to forest area or water bodies.
These Cold Wave conditions will continue for another 24 hours and thereafter winds will change direction and will commence from Southeast or Southwest. The new winds will be warm and humid, thus we expect minimums to rise by 3 to 4 degree, leading to abation of Cold Wave.
