Several districts in Rajasthan recorded maximum temperature at 40 degree Celsius yesterday, which was first of the year so far. Rajasthan Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Chittorgarh are already experiencing maximum settling 5 degrees above normal, which is a Heatwave condition. Moreover, maximum in Churu settled 6 degrees above normal.
Criteria of heatwave conditions
For a place to be marked as observing Heatwave condition, the maximum temperature should reach 40 degree Celsius mark and departure from normal should be that of 5 degree Celsius. In other words, we can say that if normal of a station is 40 degrees or less and departure is that of 5 to 6 degree than it's a heatwave condition.
Forecast
Some rain is forecast for Rajasthan today and tomorrow but they will not be of much help in pulling down the high temperature in the state.
In the coming days, Heatwave conditions will become more widespread, with isolated pockets of Rajasthan observing ‘severe’ Heatwave.
Pre-Monsoon season although starts from March 1. Rajasthan heats up during the latter part of March. Heatwave conditions persist over the state during April and May. These are the months when frequency of dust storm and sandstorm also increases. We can expect commencement of sandstorm activities during the first week of April.
