Rains wreak havoc in Chittorgarh, no improvement foreseen
Chittorgarh had recorded extremely heavy showers of 259 mm as on Monday during last 24 hours from 08:30 am. The day before also, the city has observed hefty rainfall of 229 mm.
The reason for these sharp showers can be attributed to a low pressure area over East Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Bikaner, in Rajasthan which has enhanced sharp rainy spells over Chittorgarh and adjoining areas.
During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, rainfall observed over a few districts of Chittorgarh is displayed in the table below:

These incessant rainfall has also given birth to flood-like situation over Chittorgarh and Bhilwara district of Rajasthan affecting the normal life of people. Most of them have been evacuated due to rain water entering their homes.
Incident of a bus falling into a river in Bijolia area has also been reported. However, approximately 40 children were saved from it.
During next 24 -48 hours, heavy rains are expected over South Rajasthan. Hence, there are not much chances of the situation to improve recently.
First published on August 8, 2016: A cyclonic circulation is over South Pakistan and adjoining Southwest Rajasthan and Kutch. And a low-pressure area is over Northwest Rajasthan. Due to these weather systems, fairly widespread rain has occurred over Southeast Rajasthan and Kutch region.
Few places over Southeast Rajasthan have received extremely heavy rainfall, Chittorgarh in particularly received 229 mm of rain in last 24 hours.
Other nearby districts have received good rain like Tonk received 46 mm of rains, Udaipur and Sawai Madhopur 33 mm each, Bundi received 26 mm and Pali 12 mm of rainfall.
Till now, for the entire Monsoon season East Rajasthan has received excess rainfall of 41% but in comparison, West Rajasthan has received less rain. The region has received rains of 1% below than the normal.
The cyclonic circulation is expected to persist and the low-pressure area is also likely to remain over Northwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas. So moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rain spell will continue over Southeast Rajasthan and adjoining areas for the next 48 hours. Chittorgarh and all nearby districts will continue to receive some good spell for the next 2 days.
