Chilly weather in offing for Kolkata

Kolkata has been witnessing unusual weather conditions for the last few days wherein people are observing chilly wintry nights. Being coastal area, nights remain slightly warmer. However, night temperatures are presently hovering around 11°C or 12°C, which is quite colder than usual.

On Tuesday, the state capital recorded minimum temperatures at 12.4°C that was two degrees below the normal average.

According to Skymet Weather, due to continuous flow of cold northerly winds from the snow-clad Himalayas have been over the city and nearby areas. Moreover, clear sky conditions are further strengthening these winds. Both the factors are not allowing the mercury to rise.

These moderate winds are also blowing during the day time, due to which maximum temperatures are also settling below normal by a degree or two.

In fact, we do not expect any change in the weather conditions in the coming days as well. The on and off rain and snow over the hills of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh will keep the winds cold. Thus, minimum temperatures are likely to settle below normal for at least one week.

Weathermen said that until and unless any weather system develops in nearby areas of the city, the wind pattern would not change. As a result, weather conditions especially during the night will remain cold.
