The Kashmir Valley has been reeling under intense weather conditions with Gulmarg recording -10.4 degrees Celsius, yesterday the minimum here was at -9.2 degrees. Srinagar has witnessed -3.6 degrees as its minimum whereas Qazi Gund saw the minimum settle at -4 degrees today.
January 29, is the last date for Chillai Kalan, which means the end of extremely harsh winters for the Kashmir Valley and that too on a harsh note. A Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas but it will be a very feeble one and only higher reaches i.e. places above 15000 feet or so will only see rain and snow, both.
Chillai Khurd which is the next phase of winters for the Kashmir Valley will be welcomed by a Fresh Western Disturbance that will break the chain of intensely cold weather in view of some rains and snow, rise in temperatures etc.
