This winter season, weather remained warm across the globe and India was not an exception. Several factors such as climate change, global warming and the strongest El-Nino on record can be attributed to the unusual weather.

As per the statistics, India witnessed one drought on an average in a decade between 1900 and 2000. However between 2001 and 2015, the country have reported five droughts. Number of El-Nino years have also increased.

Till the first of half of January, winters were missing from entire Northwest India including Delhi. But there was a sudden change in the weather thereafter, with minimum temperature in Delhi plummeting to 4.2°C at Safdarjung Observatory. Some areas across the city also witnessed minimum temperatures even below than this. Subsequently, weather conditions reversed again from January 26.
