Chhattisgarh has been receiving good Monsoon rains for the last few days. Parts of North Chhattisgarh has been receiving moderate showers on account of the Monsoon trough passing through the foothills of Himalayas embedded with a cyclonic circulation.

While South Chhattisgarh is witnessing good rainfall with heavy showers at few places due to trough extending from a weather system over Arabian Sea off the Kerela and Karnataka coast.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, weather over the state gets affected by the weather systems developing in North as well as in South direction due to its geographical attributes. Moreover, Chhattisgarh falls in track of the most of the systems developing in Bay of Bengal, as they either travel in west or northwest direction.

These features make it one of the highest rain receiving states of the country during the four-month long Southwest Monsoon. Chhattisgarh has recorded 694 mm of rain from June 01 till now against the seasonal average rainfall of 1147 mm.

As per the latest forecast by Skymet, good weather activity will continue over North and South Chhattisgarh for next 24 to 48 hours at least.

In August so far, Pendra in northern region has recorded 231 mm of rain against the monthly normal of 367 mm. Similarly, Jagdalpur in southern region has also observed 253 mm of rain till now against monthly average of 351 mm.

At present, central parts of the state are not witnessing any major weather activity. But with a fresh system brewing in North Bay of Bengal, intensity of rain over these areas will pick up the pace very soon.
