August 12, 2016 4:06 PM | Skymet Weather Team

During last 24 hours, few parts of Chhattisgarh have observed very heavy spells. Ambikapur being one of them had recorded a whopping 104.4 mm rainfall.

Other districts of the state have also managed to witness moderate showers. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Rajnandgaon witnessed 11 mm rains, Bilaspur observed 7.9 mm rainfall, Jagdalpur and Pendra have seen 9.4 mm showers each while Raipur observed very light spells of 1.4 mm only.

The depression over Jharkhand and adjoining areas practically remained stationary. This depression is seen in close proximity of Daltonganj in Jamshedpur. Further this system is likely to weaken gradually into a well-marked low-pressure area and is expected to move towards west northwest direction.

Moreover, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Ferozepur, Delhi, center of well-marked low-pressure area, Digha, towards northeast Bay of Bengal.

In last 24 hours, due to this weather system, Monsoon over northern parts of Chhattisgarh has remained active. Moderate rains were observed over many parts of the state while the southern region of Chhattisgarh has witnessed light rainy spells.

Though this weather system is moving away from the state, rainfall will still continue with moderate intensity over northwest region. However, the rain intensity is further expected to reduce towards the eastern region of Chhattisgarh.

Further, a low pressure area is expected to form over North Bay of Bengal around August 16 and three to four days hence, good spells may make a comeback over the state.
