Southwest Monsoon has remained active over Chhattisgarh for the past 48 hours. While the intensity of rains was less a day before, rainfall has increased during the last 24 hours. Several parts of the state have received moderate to heavy rains during this period.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Pendra Road recorded a whopping 60 mm of rainfall followed by Bilaspur 49 mm. Other areas to have received rains include Raipur 46 mm along with Jagdalpur that received 31 mm of rainfall.

These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area which is over North Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal along with a cyclonic circulation which is over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and its adjoining areas. The axis of the Monsoon trough is also running in close proximity of Chhattsigarh enhancing the rainfall activities.

Good rains are expected to continue over the state of Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours. Some areas may even receive a few heavy spells of rain.

At present, the state of Chhattisgarh is witnessing a rainfall deficiency of 2 percent making it fall under the normal rains category. This spell of rain is expected to bring down the rain deficiency even further in the coming days.
