After experiencing hot and sultry weather for almost a week, finally there is some relief seen for Chhattisgarh. Being situated in Central India, the topography of the state is largely stretched over North South orientation with East West weather system. Hence, it is difficult for the entire state to get significant same weather system at a go. But few pockets of the state have been experiencing good pre- Monsoon showers of varied intensity from past 2 days.

For the last 24 hours central region of the state has witnessed fairly widespread rain and thundershowers. Rainfall recorded during last 24 hours in most pockets of Chhattisgarh were:

Raipur recorded the highest rainfall in the state of 32 mm, Bilaspur recorded 12 mm, Durg 11.6 mm and Pendra recorded 5 mm of rain.

A cyclonic circulation over eastern region of the country including Bihar, Jharkhand and adjoining West Bengal region is the main reason for these pre-Monsoon activities including a trough extending across Chhattisgarh.

Few days back, temperature has been settling in higher 40s due to the absence of any significant pre-Monsoon rain.  With these moderate rainy spells, there is some respite from the hot climate conditions. Relief is predicted during late evening and night.

Southwest Monsoon is active over India and is likely to cover parts of Maharashtra, Northeast India and Chhattisgarh in next few days.
