It seems that the pre-Monson showers are probably planning to break almost all the records this year. It was just a month back when Silchar and Cherrapunji received record breaking rains. Heavy rains have become quite common for the Northeastern states.

This month too, Cherrapunji has worn the crown of recording above average rains in April. Cherrapunji observed hefty rains of 194 mm in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday. While it’s monthly mean stands at 817.2 mm, it has already 1886 mm which is much more than the monthly average.

Hence, Cherrapunji has already surpassed its monthly average with a good difference. In fact, most of the Northeast India in the recent past have seen good rains. As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these showers can be associated with an upper air cyclonic circulation that is seen in Bihar and adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

Moreover, another cyclonic circulation persists over upper Assam and another in lower Assam. In the wake of these weather systems, incessant rains lashed the northeastern states.

Furthermore, the rains are expected to continue in Northeast India. However, the rainfall intensity in lower parts of Assam is expected to increase tomorrow. While districts in upper Assam can see an increased rainfall activity the day after.

Moreover, today’s Western Disturbance is also seen moving eastwards and hence its effect will be much more felt towards the northeastern states also including in Bihar and West Bengal in the form of good rains.
