Weather over Chennai has become partly cloudy, as predicted by Skymet Weather. Rains are likely to follow soon and drench the city in the coming few days.

Weathermen predict rains will start making an appearance over the state capital March 4 onwards. One or two spell of very light rain cannot be ruled out on March 3 as well.

The upcoming spell can be attributed to the combination of weather systems likely to develop around the city. A trough is likely to develop along coastal Tamil Nadu, while a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over Rayalaseema and adjoining North Interior Tamil Nadu.

Combination of these systems will lead to rain over most parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. The spell will be a prolonged one and rains of varying intensity will continue for 3-4 days.

The city is likely to witness scattered showers, while intensity will be more over South Coastal Tamil Nadu.
In wake of this, maximum temperatures will may see drop of few notches during that time. However, till then, temperatures will settle around normal and weather will be warm and humid.

On Wednesday, Chennai recorded day maximum at 31.1°C and minimum temperature was at 22°C.

Rains have remained far and few ever since the beginning of 2017. City has been witnessing dry weather conditions for the last many days. In fact, February remained practically dry. February, March and April record least amount of rainfall with their monthly average rainfall standing at 2.2 mm, 4 mm and 7.7 mm, respectively.
