But like Minambakkam observatory Nungambakkam observatory also received 64.5 mm of rain this year on December 1. Actual rain occurred on the night November 30. Since then Nungambakkam observatory has received traces throughout the Month.

According to the weather data, Chennai is experiencing one of the driest December in last 12 years. As per weathermen, any significant rain activity is not expected in the remaining days of December. Therefore, we can say that Northeast Monsoon remained very weak throughout December 2017.

The normal period for Northeast Monsoon is between October and December. Good rains were observed in the month of October and November in Chennai. These rains were mainly due to the low-pressure area and depressions formed near Chennai. These rainy episodes lasted for about two to three days and were not occurring continuously. The effect of Cyclone Ockhi was also observed over the city. Therefore normal Northeast Monsoon rains were almost absent throughout this season.
