Entire Tamil Nadu has been witnessing Monsoon showers. The state capital has also observed scattered on and off rainfall in the month of June. However, not much showers are seen in Chennai during Monsoon season as Chennai and Tamil Nadu mostly receives rain from the Northeast Monsoon.

Normally, the rainiest season that this state and its districts enjoy is the Northeast Monsoon season lasting from September to December. September is the least rainy month and November is the rainiest one. These rains gradually start reducing in December.

Even after onset of Monsoon in the region, the capital city has just enjoyed 2 to 3 rainy days. During last 24 hours, there has not been any rains recorded in the city. Chennai recorded 11 mm showers on June 19. The average monthly rainfall for Chennai in the month of June is 55.9 mm. However, the city has already received 52 mm till date. It can be presumed that Chennai will be able to achieve its average monthly rains by month end.

As per Skymet Weather, no heavy spells are expected in the city but light to moderate showers are predicted for next 4 to 5 days. The situation is building up for some rainfall activity possibly in the evening. Possibility of warm and humid conditions may also occur in the city followed by scattered light to moderate rains on few occasions.
