In the same span of time, heavy rain to the tune of 87 mm was recorded in Cuddalore and Parangipettai 70 mm of rain. Meanwhile, light rain was witnessed in Vellore and Atiramapattinam. A cyclonic circulation is persisting over Sri Lanka and adjoining Gulf of Mannar which will lead to rainfall activity across Chennai.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy with one or two extremely heavy showers are likely over southern districts of Tamil Nadu. Places such as Tuticorin, Karaikal, Rameswaram, and Nagapattinam may witness heavy to very heavy rains.
Puducherry, Chennai, and Cuddalore may witness moderate showers with one or two heavy spells. The interior parts of Tamil Nadu such as Tiruchchirapalli, Namakkal, Salem, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Vellore are anticipated to receive light to moderate showers.
The interior parts will witness comparatively less rain due to decreased moisture level across the region. Most moisture will be more depleted over the coastal stations resulting in rains. Presently north-easterly to easterly winds are blowing across the state and speed is moderate in the order of 20 -30 kmph.
The moisture feed from the Bay of Bengal will continue feeding moisture and hence rain and thundershower activities will continue during the next three to four days across Chennai. Waterlogging and traffic jams cannot be ruled out due to these hefty showers. The sky will remain cloudy and the weather conditions will be comfortable.
