Chennai has been witnessing dry conditions for the last many days in absence of any significant weather system. But the state capital is now likely to witness some rain and thundershowers on Sunday.
According to Skymet Weather, a feeble trough has developed along the South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Coastal Tamil Nadu. With this, northeasterly winds are blowing over the region including Chennai that has been infusing moisture over the areas.
As a result, we can expect partly cloudy to cloudy sky over coastal areas of both the states, followed by scattered light showers over many places.
Chennai also stands a chance for one or two short spells of rain at some places. However, it will not be significant in nature and will not have any impact over the maximum and minimum temperatures.
Monday onwards, weather will go dry once again. Another spell of good rains is approaching Chennai and we can expect some good showers on January 21. This spell is likely to continue for at least two days.
So far in the month, Chennai has not recorded any significant rainfall. The city has remained practically dry as compared to its monthly average rainfall of 22.5 mm.
The city does not see much rains during January, which become even more scarce in the upcoming months of February, April and March. All these months generally witness single digit rainfall.
