Chennai rains have remained absent from the city for quite some time now.
Dry weather conditions have taken over, and temperatures have remained above normal since long. Weather conditions in the city continue to stay sultry and uncomfortable.
It’s not just April where maximums have been high, but Chennai also recorded above average temperatures during the second half of March.
While some rains would have been a blessing in disguise, the rain gods have ditched Chennai since the past one and a half months.
Usually, during this time, pre-Monsoon showers begin in Chennai bringing in some relief from the hot and sultry weather conditions.
But for the past few days, no weather system has been affecting the region. Not even one cyclonic circulation has developed over South Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu coast off late.
However, with no rains in sight for Chennai, the city will continue to sizzle throughout the month of April as well. Hot and humid weather conditions, clear sky and bright sunshine will keep the temperatures above the normal levels.
As this year is an El Niño year, Pre-Monsoon activity in Chennai is highly unlikely before the month of May. Thus, only when some rains give an appearance over Chennai, will the residents heave a sigh of relief.
