Chennai woke up with the pleasant surprise of rain and thundershower over many parts of the city. These rain and thundershowers bring down the temperatures leading to the present morning. Although Chennai is under complete lockdown, and people are restricted to go out to enjoy the morning showers. Most of the people took to social media to post pictures of rain and cloudy sky.
The month of February and March were driest for Chennai. The monthly average rainfall for these two months is less than 5 mm. Pre-Monsoon activities usually pick up the pace for Chennai in the month of April and May. The monthly average of April is 14.4 mm. Until now Chennai has received 26 mm rain.
This year, February and March remained dry with no rainfall at all for Chennai. The first spell of rain occurred over Chennai on April 10th with the gap of almost 66 days.
Now conditions are becoming favorable for pre-monsoon activities to continue over coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai for the next 2 to 3 days. Although rain activities will be patchy and for short duration. But Chennai will get much-needed relief hot weather conditions. The probability of April ending on a surplus note for Chennai is bright. We expect that month of April will almost double the amount of monthly average rainfall for Chennai.
