Chennai to escape Cyclone Vardah’s fury

Chennai rains had revived during the first few days of December when season’s second cyclonic storm Nada had given a few very good spells of rain over the capital city of Tamil Nadu. However, as the storm dissipated, rains became far and few for the city.

Now, only very light rains have been occurring over the city. On December 8, the third cyclonic storm of the season, Vardah developed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal. Not only this, conditions are quite favourable for further intensification of the cyclonic storm.

The storm is expected to hit the Andhra Coast around next week on Monday. The point to be noted here is that Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu will be saved from the cyclone fury.

While the city is expected to receive light to moderate rains owing to the cyclone, the possibility of heavy rains is ruled out from the city.

Last year, during the beginning of December, Chennai had received heavy to very heavy rains owing to a depression which had developed very close to the Tamil Nadu coast. Flooding rains were witnessed and several records were broken. Since this cyclone is a little too far away from Chennai, the city is expected to escape the cyclone fury.
