Updated on November 24, 2015: Torrential rain has brought Chennai to a halt. Traffic has been left to move at a snail's pace as heavy rain continues to pound Chennai. Chennai rains that remained incessant post 2 p.m. yesterday have now crossed the mark of all time highest rainfall mark in November. With 50 mm rain received in just one hour and 139 mm in last 24 hours, Chennai rains now stand at 1185 mm for November.
Updated on November 23, 2015: Incessant rains in Chennai have continued to wreck havoc in the city as the city receives record-breaking rain in November. The Northeast Monsoon that remained active over Chennai in last few days has given 1046 mm of rain so far in November, inching closer to its all-time highest rainfall record of 1088 mm rain.
Moderate rain is expected to continue in Chennai for another 24 hours after which rain intensity will reduce in the city, significantly.

Rain Gods seem to be a little too happy with Chennaites as heavy rains continue to lash the capital city of Tamil Nadu. The city had already crossed its monthly rainfall in the first ten days of November. In the last five days, Chennai has been receiving heavy rain.
After a whopping 265 mm of rain in Chennai during the last 24 hours, the November rainfall figures have climbed mountains. So far, the city has received a whopping 926.4 mm of rainfall. As heavy rains continue to pummel Chennai, the city is likely to cross the 1000 mm mark in just a few hours. The all-time record for the highest rainfall in November stands at 1088.4 mm in Chennai which happened in 1918.
If the intensity of rain continues to be the same, Chennai may be able to break several rainfall records.

The torrential rain that inundated Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu dumped enough rainfall in Chennai that enabled the city to cross its monthly average rainfall with aplomb. Owing to the deep depression, Chennai received a whopping 357 mm of rainfall in last four days. The city has so far received 424 mm of rainfall and crossed its monthly average i.e. 407 mm in just 10-11 days of November.

Chennai has been receiving torrential rains since the past 24 to 36 hours. These rains have been attributed to the deep depression, which was developing over Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to move in the west-north-west direction and cross Tamil Nadu coast in a few hours and dump more rain in many areas of Puducherry, Chennai and Tamil Nadu.
In the last six hours from 8:30 am today, Chennai has recorded a good 66 mm of rainfall. More rain is in the offing as the system is likely to continue affecting Tamil Nadu and its adjoining areas for the next 24 to 48 hours. Due to these rains, Chennai is inching towards completing its monthly rainfall.
The average rainfall for Chennai during the month of November is 407 mm. So far, the city has received 339 mm of rainfall. With heavy rain lashing the city, Chennai will most likely complete its monthly rainfall in the next two days or so.

Meanwhile, heavy rain in Chennai has brought life to a standstill. Schools and offices are likely to remain closed for another two to three days. Also, massive downpour has resulted in clogging of roads which has further led to traffic chaos.
