While major metro cities of India such as Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore have been receiving heavy Monsoon rain since past few days, Chennai is the latest metro city to join this list. After drenching parts of North India and West Coast, Monsoon rains are rapidly heading towards parts of Tamil Nadu including capital city Chennai.
A trough extending from Vidarbha in Maharashtra through Rayalseema in Andhra Pradesh to interior Tamil Nadu will ensure rainfall in the interior parts of Tamil Nadu for the next three days.
Though scattered rain has already begun in this southern state, chances of moderate rain during next 24-48 hours are high. During last 24 hours, places in Tamil Nadu to have received rain includes Karaikal 9.5 mm, Dharmapuri 27 mm, Madurai 10.8 mm, Salem 26 mm, and Vellore 37 mm.

Rain in Chennai is slated to begin today and the intensity of rain is expected to increase tomorrow onwards. After remaining intense for next two days in Chennai, Monsoon rains are likely to witness a low intensity thereafter. On and off rain is expected to continue until early next week.
Besides Chennai, other parts of north coastal Tamil Nadu will also witness rain of varying intensity in next few days.
The only glitch, however, is high level of humidity. Even though sea breeze will cause clouding and keep the temperature withing the range of low 30s, high humidity will keep adding to the discomfort level.
