The capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai has been observing dry and sultry weather conditions for the last many days. As a result, day temperatures have been settling around 36˚C. Being a coastal station, such high day maximums along with high humidity levels, the weather becomes unbearable during the afternoon hours.
However, interior parts of Tamil Nadu have been receiving on and off thundershower activities. At present, a confluence zone is extending from Jharkhand to interior parts of Tamil Nadu across Telangana and South Interior Karnataka. Therefore, scattered rain and thundershowers would continue over the interior parts of Tamil Nadu.
However, weather in Chennai will remain dry and hot, with sky conditions being partly cloudy. Maximum and minimum temperatures of the city are likely to settle around 36 degree Celsius and 29 degree Celsius, respectively.
After two days, this confluence zone will weaken leading to almost dry and hot weather conditions over entire Tamil Nadu on April 24.
However, slight relief is in sight by the early next week. As per weathermen, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean. This weather system will gradually intensify into a depression and move northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu Coast. Thus, between April 29 and 30, coastal parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai and Puducherry may receive scattered rain and thundershower activities due to the above weather system.
Currently, the models are just indicating the weather system but its track and intensity cannot be predicted accurately as of now. At times, weather systems in Bay of Bengal re-curve in northeast direction as well before reaching Tamil Nadu coast. But Skymet Weather will keep a watch and update you from time to time about the movement of this weather system.
