Chennai to battle scorching heat and humidity

April 8, 2017 9:33 AM |

Chennai to battle scorching heat and humidityDry weather has kept Chennai warm and humid for the last few days. Meanwhile neighbouring states has been witnessing on and off pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers.

On Friday, city recorded day maximum of 35 degree Celsius which is a notch above normal, while the minimum settled at 28.1 degree Celsius, about two degrees above the usual levels.

At present also, two cyclonic circulations can be seen over North Interior Karnataka and Comorin region, respectively. These systems will give rains over parts of Karnataka, Kerala and Interior Tamil Nadu but will escape Chennai.

Moreover, these systems have changed the wind pattern to warm southerly winds that has further increased the temperatures as well as humidity over Chennai.

According to Skymet Weather, weather in Chennai will even get hotter in the coming days. In fact, with increased levels of humidity, the feel-effect will be even more. This will almost amount to heatwave like conditions for the state capital.

Further, no respite is seen in near future as we do not foresee development of any weather system over or around the city.

Chennai, being a rain shadow area, does not record much rainfall both during the pre-Monsoon season or the Southwest Monsoon. However, development of any strong weather system in Bay of Bengal can give good rainfall over the region.

The city records more than 60% of its rainfall during the Northeast Monsoon that spans from October till December.
