Chennai records flooding rains of 120 mm in six hours, heavy rains ahead too

Rains in Chennai remained far and few throughout the month of December with just about 24 mm of rains recorded until yesterday. Moreover, until yesterday, the city had recorded the lowest December rains since the year 2009.

However, heavy rains have made a grand comeback over the city of Chennai during its last leg of Northeast Monsoon. As had been reiterated by Skymet Weather, Chennai rains are back again, and that too with a loud bang.

The city of Chennai's Nungambakkam observatory has recorded a whopping 120 mm of rainfall in just about six hours of time.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Chennai rains are expected to remain heavy for some time. In fact, the city may see some heavy showers tomorrow as well, aggravating the flood situation over the city. These showers are expected to continue on Jan 1 and 2 as well. Massive relief is only expected around Jan 3.
