Chennai rains to make an appearance almost anytime now

August began on the rainy note for Chennai, as the city recorded light Monsoon rains on the very first day of the month. In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Chennai recorded 10 mm of rain. At present, the weather conditions are conducive to giving some light isolated rains over the city as the cloudy weather has taken over the clear sky which was prevailing from a long time.

The overcast sky and mild breezy weather conditions are clear indications of rains paving their way towards Chennai almost anytime soon. These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over South Andhra Pradesh. Besides this, a trough was also running along the Tamil Nadu coast. Both the systems have been giving good rains over many parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai from a long time.

However, now, the cyclonic circulation has fizzled out and the trough is also moving away from the coast. Thus, as the trough along the Tamil Nadu Coast has become feeble in nature, heavy rains are not expected.

Though, the humidity present in the atmosphere can lead to isolated rains in the city that could occur almost anytime soon. However, these rains will be light and patchy in nature. Thereafter, the next spell of good rains can be anticipated between August 7-10.
