Chennai rains to take a back seat after 24 hours

Chennai has been receiving continuous on and off rains of varied intensity. On August 17, the state capital recorded whopping 61 mm of rain. Not only Chennai but almost entire Tamil Nadu has witnessed good spells of rain.

In the last 24 hours also Chennai and adjoining cities recorded light to moderate spells of rains. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Nungambakkam Observatory recorded 17 mm of rain and Minambakkam Observatory 4 mm, Parangipettai 22 mm, Thanjavur 14 mm, Salem 16 mm, Vellore, Kodaikanal, and Connor recorded 6 mm of rain.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to an upper air trough which is extending from Telangana to Gulf of Manna in the lower levels. These rains are likely to continue for the next 24 hours. However, the intensity of rains will be light in nature. Thereafter, the rains will take a back seat from Tamil Nadu including Chennai. Warm and humid weather conditions will prevail across the region.

However, rains are again in the forecast from August 21, which will once again make the weather pleasant. In the month of August, Chennai usually records 126.8 mm of rain and up till August 18, it has already recorded 191.9 mm thereby surpassing the monthly rain average.
