Chennai has been witnessing mainly dry weather conditions during the last few days. Despite the ongoing Northeast Monsoon season, no significant showers have been recorded over the city and only isolated places have recorded light patchy rain.
October was also rain deficient with very few spells of rain. Though two back to back weather systems had developed over Bay of Bengal but they failed to yield good rains over the city.
Now, a fresh cyclonic circulation has developed over North Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal. The system will be moving in west direction and will start affecting the weather over Tamil Nadu including Chennai by November 12.
According to Skymet Weather, we can expect scattered rains and thundershowers over the city from November 12-14. However, intensity of rain will not be very heavy but some areas may witness short spell of good rains.
Northeast Monsoon has been subdued over entire Tamil Nadu including Chennai, leading to major rain deficiency. This three-month long season is responsible for the majority amount of rainfall over the state.
Chennai alone records more than 60% of its rainfall during this time, with November being the rainiest month. The city normally records 407.4 mm of rain during this month, out of which it has recorded mere 29 mm of rain so far.
