Cyclone Vardah has now intensified into a severe cyclone and has reached its peak strength now. So much so that it is also moving closer to the Andhra coast and is currently lying 790 km SSE of Visakhapatnam, 870 km SE of Machilipatnam and 480 km WNW of Port Blair.
The system is expected to sustain its peak strength until the evening hours of December 11 and thereafter observe gradual weakening. The system is expected to further move towards Andhra Pradesh and hit the coast on December 12 between Machilipatnam and Nellore during the afternoon or evening hours.
In the wake of this system, Chennai which has been mostly dry for the past few days is expected to receive good rains. Scattered light to moderate showers are likely over the city on December 12. The city is expected to witness cloudy weather conditions on December 11 itself.
In fact, the city may also witness isolated drizzle during the late-night hours of December 11. However, rainfall intensity is expected to increase on December 12 and will continue during December 13 as well. However, the intensity and spread will be more on December 12.
The possibility of heavy to very heavy showers is ruled out and the city will get only enough rains which will result in pleasant weather conditions.
