Chennai rains to revive soon

September has performed fairly well for Chennai in terms of Monsoon rains. Formation of back to back weather systems in Bay of Bengal has not let the weather over the city go dry.

So far, the city has recorded 215.4 mm of rains, surpassing its monthly average rainfall of 137.3 mm.

Now, another fresh spell of rain is in offing for Chennai during the next 24 to 48 hours. All thanks to the cyclonic circulation over North Andaman Sea that has moved westwards and is now seen over east-central Bay of Bengal.

In additions to this, the low pressure area remains stationary over the central parts of the country and a trough is extending across this weather system up to Andhra Pradesh Coast.

In wake of all these systems, we can expect light rains with few moderate showers over parts of North Tamil Nadu including Chennai during the next couple of days.

Weather will remain cloudy to partly cloudy sky and levels of humidity are also likely to increase. With this, weathermen predict September to end on a rainy note.

Thereafter, as we enter into October, the intensity of rains will increase significantly with the onset of Northeast Monsoon. It records more than 60% of its annual rainfall during the season that spans from October till December.
November is the rainiest month for Chennai, wherein it records 407.4 mm of rain.
