Chennai rains to revisit tomorrow

Chennai rains have been in the dark for quite some time now. In fact, the last time the city received good rains was around November 3 when both the observatories of Chennai had received moderate rains. While the month of October had received very little rains, November has a similar tale to tell.

However, a ray of hope is in sight for Chennai. In fact, a feeble trough is developing over the Tamil Nadu coast by tomorrow. Also, the cyclonic circulation over coastal parts of Karnataka and Kerala will also increase moisture levels over the region resulting in some rainfall activity.

Thus, Chennai is expected to witness scattered light to moderate rain during the next 24 to 48 hours. While the city will receive some good rains on November 13 and 14, rainfall activity will reduce on November 15 and only isolated showers are expected during that day.

While the city receives a whopping 407.4 mm of rainfall during the month of November, Chennai has been able to record a mere 26 mm in twelve days. In fact, reaching its monthly mean not only seems a daunting but an impossible target as of now.

Northeast Monsoon has been on the weaker side this Northeast Monsoon season as the entire Peninsular India has been recording less rains.
