The month of November commenced on rainy note for Chennai. Three digit hefty showers lashed the city and other coastal stations of Tamil Nadu which led to a chaotic situation across the city. Schools and colleges remained closed for around a week due to waterlogging in almost all areas.

The rain intensity reduced gradually. However, after a short break, Chennai rains are back again now. In the past day, light rains were witnessed over many parts of the city, wherein Nungambakkam observatory witnessed light rain to the tune of 0.2 mm. However, Minambakkam observatory failed to witness any rainfall activity.

Meanwhile, Karaikal recorded moderate intensity rain to the tune of 22 mm, while Puducherry saw 3 mm of rain. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, a low-pressure area is prevailing over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal.

This weather system will gradually move towards Tamil Nadu and may intensify further into a well-marked Low-pressure area. Therefore we expect the intensity of rain to increase gradually over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu such as Puducherry, Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Parangipettai, Cuddalore, and Chennai. On November 10, rains will be light in nature but the weather will remain cloudy.

It is anticipated that the intensity of rain will increase from November 11. On and off rains will continue till November 15. During this time, few heavy spells are expected which may once again lead to waterlogging and traffic jams in many parts of the city. After November 15 weather systems will start moving in north-northeast direction away from Tamil Nadu coast towards Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
