Chennai may receive rains tomorrow

Updated on June 1, 2017: Chennai rains to revive when Monsoon arrives

While interior parts of Tamil Nadu have been witnessing on and off rainfall activity, Chennai rains have remined in hiding for quite some time now. So much so that the city has remained dry. Rains have only been there in the form of traces and have not been enough to keep Chennaites happy enough.

Now, rainfall intensity will remain on the backseat with showers remaining mostly out of sight. While isolated activity cannot be ruled out, heavy rains will remain far away from the city.

Southwest Monsoon is expected to arrive over Chennai between June 5 and 8. Thus, Chennai rains will revive when Southwest Monsoon makes an appearance over the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Until then, rains will remain in hiding from the city.

Published on May 31, 2017: Chennai remained dry despite the interior regions ofTamil Naduwitnessing on and off showers. Apart from observing a few light traces of rains, Chennai has in majority remained dry which in a way failed to cheer upChennaiites.

As per Skymet Weather, at present also the warm and humid weather is likely to continue over Chennai. This is all due to the wind pattern that took a u-turn. Presently, southerly and southwesterly winds are prevailing overChennaiand adjoining regions. Since these winds are moist and warm in nature, they will fail to give any rains over the area.

Though rains as of now in Chennai is not foreseen, but rare chances of thundercloud development cannot be ruled out completely. Rainfall in true sense will commence in the first week of June, with the onset of Monsoon.

Skymet Weather further reiterates that spanning from June 5 and June 10, Southwest Monsoon is expected to cover almost the entireKeralastate along with Tamil Nadu, parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa,Andhra Pradeshand remaining parts of northeastern states and some parts ofWest Bengal.
