Chennai rains have kept the residents waiting for quite a long time now. So much so that the last time the city witnessed rains was about a month ago on January 9 and 10. In fact, even then, very light rainfall activity was observed by the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

Since then, the weather has remained warm and humid. Rains have remained far away from Chennai. As far as the temperatures are concerned, the maximum temperatures are settling around 30 to 31 degrees Celsius and the minimums are hovering in the lower 20s.
The month of January and February are also considered as the least rainy months for the city. Now, Chennai rains might make a comeback as the conditions are building up for a rainy event. The sky has already become cloudy.

These rains will be attributed to a cyclonic circulation is persisting over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka along with a trough, which is extending along Kerala and Karnataka.
In the wake of these combined weather systems, Chennai is likely to witness short spells of rain. The intensity of these rains is expected to remain light. Rains might occur tonight as well.
However, there are more chances of the rainfall occurring tomorrow. After 24 hours, the weather would clear up, but the cloud cover will persist.
As per Skymet Weather, this light rainfall activity will not influence the temperatures significantly, however, marginal changes might occur. The temperatures are likely to settle in the normal range.
Meanwhile, other areas of Tamil Nadu are also likely to witness some rains. The intensity of rains will be higher in the southern parts as compared to the northern parts of the state.
