Chennai to see light to moderate Monsoon rains

August 26, 2017 4:50 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Since last many days, Chennai has been witnessing scattered light Monsoon rains. Besides, there were no major differences in the weather over Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam Observatory. Thus, comfortable weather conditions have been prevailing over Tamil Nadu along with its state capital, Chennai.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Chennai merely recorded 0.1 mm of rainfall.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen prevailing over several parts of Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. An upper air trough is also seen extending up to Southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu Coast.

Moreover, these two weather systems are expected to move towards West. Therefore, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are possible to occur over Chennai and adjoining areas during the next 36 to 48 hours.

Thereafter, the intensity of these good Monsoon rains is likely to reduce significantly. Due to these circumstances of rains, the temperatures are expected to rise marginally. Also, comfortable weather along with partly cloudy sky is expected to prevail over the entire state.
