Chennai has been recording traces of rain for the last two days, however, any significant rainfall had failed to make an appearance.
Now, it seems that the day has come when the city might see some rains. According to Skymet Weather, the weather conditions getting favorable for rains over parts Coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
However, we would like to clarify that rains would only be light in nature. These rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation brewing in North Bay of Bengal and a trough running from this system along the East Coast.

As a result, humid winds are reaching to Chennai as well as other coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. Sky has already gone cloudy and rains are likely to follow soon. Rains would be for shorter duration and of light intensity only.

These rain and thundershowers would bring relief from persisting hot weather conditions but it would be for a brief period only. The day will continue to be hot and humid in the coming days despite the chances of rain for the next few days as well.
The state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai does not record much rain during the Monsoon season as it falls in rain shadow area.
