Chennai rains have been far away from the capital city of Tamil Nadu for the past few days. After wreaking havoc on the state capital, mostly dry weather conditions have been prevailing over the city. However, Chennai rains are likely to make a comeback next weekend.

On December 22, South Tamil Nadu is likely to receive light to moderate rain. After that, the weather will remain dry until December 26. However, a feeble cyclonic circulation, which is developing over South Andaman Sea will start moving in a westerly direction.

The system is likely to intensify into a low-pressure area. As per Skymet Meteorology Division in India, by December 27, the weather system will reach South Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coast and will give good rains over South and Central districts of Coastal Tamil Nadu along with Puducherry.

Chennai rains will also revive for a short period of time on December 27. The city will receive light rainfall with a few moderate spells on December 27 and 28. However, the intensity will be light and the duration will be short. During this time period, southern districts including Nagapattinam, Karaikal, and Pamban may receive heavy rainfall.

The state capital will be spared from heavy rainfall. Also, scattered light rain will be observed over Central districts of Tamil Nadu including Puducherry and its adjoining areas.

These rains will not give rise to a flood like situation in any part of Tamil Nadu. This system may be the last weather system of the Northeast Monsoon period. By the end of December, Northeast Monsoon tends to get weak and gradually withdraws from Peninsular India.
