February started on a dry note for Chennai, leading to warm and humid weather. Generally, also, the state capital does not record much rain during the month and average precipitation also stands at mere 2.2 mm.

Due to this, day maximums have been settling above normal by a degree or two. On Thursday, Chennai recorded maximum temperature of 30.8°C against the normal average temperature of 30°C.

However now, a feeble trough is expected to develop from South Coastal Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu today. With this, clouding will increase over Tamil Nadu by Sunday evening, which will be soon followed by rains. Also at present, winds from east direction are blowing across the region.

According to Skymet Weather, light rain will commence over Coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai during the next 24 hours and will gradually spread towards the interior parts of the state.

Weathermen predict that few convective clouds may also develop during that time that may give some thundershowers activities over Chennai. However, intensity of rains will remain light.

These rains will only last for 24 hours and with this, day temperatures are likely to fall by 2-3 degrees, while no major change is anticipated in the night temperatures.

Rains will take a back seat by February 14 as the trough will become insignificant but clouding will persist over Chennai. Few areas of Rayalaseema and Interior Tamil Nadu may record light rain but Chennai will remain dry. Thereafter, weather will go dry once again.
