After witnessing dry spell from a few days now, it seems that rains are making a comeback over the city in some time.
Last good spells that the city has witnessed were in the last week of September though that carried till October 1. However, in the last 24 hours, both the Minambakkam and Nungambakkam observatories of the city have not recorded any rains. However, good rains are foreseen in next 24 to 48 hours. Furthermore, these rains are expected to continue for at least 2 days.
Chennai has not recorded any rains since the beginning of October. Talking about the temperatures, Chennai weather has shown a good scaling up where the mercury level settled in mid-30°C.
However with the prediction of some few light along with one or two short episodes of scattered rains, temperatures are expected to witness a downfall. Hence, it can be said that the city is likely to see some good rains coming its way along with making the prevailing weather conditions comfortable.
As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these expected good rain episodes can be attributed to the feeble trough that has formed over coastal Tamil Nadu which is expected to give scattered rain and thundershower activities over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh along with Chennai.
Due to this, rains are expected to make their appearances over Chennai again after a prolonged dry spell. At present, the upper air cyclonic circulation also persists over west central Bay of Bengal off north Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The average monthly rainfall for Chennai in the month of October stands at 278.8 mm however, till date in the ongoing month, the city has failed to measure any showers.
Moreover, if experts are to be trusted, the Northeast Monsoon which generally commences during the second or third week of October has not made its onset yet. Hence, it is worth watching if the Northeast Monsoon season would give good rains over the state capital as Chennai embraces most of its rain mostly during this period.
