Isolated light rain has occurred over the city of Chennai in the past 24 hours. Although some other interior districts of North Tamil Nadu have witnessed good rains during the same time frame.
Now, the weathermen expect light to moderate rains to occur over the state capital for the next 2 to 3 days. Meanwhile, one or two districts of North Tamil Nadu may see moderate to heavy showers.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is persisting over east central Bay of Bengal. Also a trough runs from this system up to Rayalaseema across North Tamil Nadu.
Thereafter, rains are likely to reduce over most parts of the state including Chennai with which the weather will go almost dry.
As per Skymet Weather, there are possibilities of development of a low pressure area over east central Bay of Bengal which may then intensify into a well-marked low pressure area and start moving in the northwest direction.

With this, the wind pattern is anticipated to change over Tamil Nadu. Thus, the change in weather scenario over Chennai and nearby regions can be ascribed to the mentioned reason as the moisture content reaching the state from Bay of Bengal will decrease; leading to reduction in rains as well.
Till then, interior parts of Tamil Nadu will have little warm days with cool and comfortable nights. On the other hand, the coastal regions including Chennai will observe warm and soggy days with comfortable nights.
