Chennai rains to intensify, good rains over rest of Tamil Nadu

The entire state of Tamil Nadu along with the capital city have been witnessing some rainfall activity for the last few days. The last 24 hours were also not very different, and the region did receive some rainfall activity.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, the Minambakkam observatory witnessed 3 mm of rains while Nungambakkam recorded traces of rain. Other areas to have seen some showers include Pamban 7 mm, Atiramapattinam 8 mm, Tiruchirappalli 5 mm, Parangipettai 3 mm, Tondi 1 mm and traces of rain in Karaikal.

Now, rainfall activity over entire Tamil Nadu along with Chennai will witness an increase after 24 hours. During this time period, light to moderate rains will be seen over many areas with the possibility of heavy showers in a few areas.

Thus, good showers will be seen over coastal Tamil Nadu and Chennai may also receive few moderate to heavy spells. Rains will be more over southern and coastal parts of Tamil Nadu as compared to other parts of the state.

These rains will occur due to the two cyclonic circulations. One of them is currently over Southwest Bay of Bengal off South Tamil Nadu Coast and another system will be seen over Kerala coast. Along with this, moderate northeasterly winds are feeding moisture over entire coastal Tamil Nadu leading to increase in intensity.

Thus, the residents of Tamil Nadu can finally see some good rains heading their way after the delayed onset of Northeast Monsoon over the region.
