Prolonged dry spell over Chennai is finally coming to an end very soon. The much awaited rainy spells can be attributed to the remnants of Cyclonic storm Nakri would be soon re-emerging in Bay of Bengal as a feeble low pressure area or a cyclonic circulation.

Although not very powerful, but the system would be capable of reviving Northeast Monsoon, which has been subdued for the last few days. During the last 48 hours, Cyclone Nakri had made landfall over Vietnam coast and weakened further while travelling across the Vietnam.

Now, Nakri is likely to weaken further as it travels across Laos, South China Sea and Thailand. As per weathermen, we can expect the system to reach Bay of Bengal by November 14. Nakri would be travelling west-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu and Andra Pradesh coast.

According to Skymet Weather, we can expect rains to commence over Chennai by November 14 and would most likely to continue till November 16.

This November, Chennai rains have failed to perform. In fact, the city has remained almost dry till now. November is the rainiest month for Chennai, with normal average rainfall of 374.4 mm. However, the city has so far recorded mere 3 mm of rains. The blame for absence of rains can be given to Cyclone Bulbul, which took away all the moisture.

Weathermen believe that system remains grim as we are entering second half of November and daunting target lies ahead. However, the specialty of Chennai rains is that the city can record three-digit rainfall during a day itself, but for that we need a strong system.
