It seems that rain gods have not been happy with the capital city of Tamil Nadu from quite a long time. The city has remained parched almost the entire month. Pre-Monsoon showers failed to drench this coastal city since January 29 which was the last when the city had recorded some rainy traces.
Chennai also sweltered in high temperatures that went up to hit the 40-degree level and even crossed this limit. In fact, on Saturday as well, the maximum did not go below 37°C which is a scorching maximum for a coastal city like Chennai.
However, as per Skymet Weather, the hot and humid weather condition which is at present the weather condition over Chennai is soon to be taken over by some rains which are predicted to make their appearance over the city in the next 24 hours. Moreover, the city has not witnessed any rains in the month of April as against its monthly mean of 14.4 mm.
Skymet Weather reiterates that currently, dry southerly winds are blowing over the region which is the main cause of the prevailing hot and humid weather condition. But now these warm southerly will soon be taken over by the moist and warm easterlies.
Thus, the combination of both the ongoing humid weather and moisture incursion winds from the sea is expected to result in light rains which are foreseen to occur over the coastal city on May 1 and May 2.
However, these rains will be of short duration covering limited areas only. The other districts of Tamil Nadu can also brace for chances of some scattered rains.
